Advertising in Digital Media is the topic that I have chosen. Advertising is the reason that we do what we do, why we buy what we buy, and the reason we are materialistic in some cases. On the positive side, advertising has been and will continue to be beneficial to us in our business and personal lives. Personally, I use advertising daily. In my job as a Communication Specialist for a school district I must advertise our schools daily through many digital media platforms. I also do freelance media work so I have to advertise my services and myself as well.
History & Evolution of Advertising in Digital Media
According to Zhao Quanyi and Huan Wei, of Hubei University of Technology in Wuhan, China, the earliest existing text ad abroad was five thousand years ago. The ad was from an Egyptian slave owner. In 1999 the first Internet ad was published. It was published in the United States “Hotline Magazine” (Quanyi and Wei, 2010). In present day, digital ads come in many different forms. Digital ads come in the form of audio, images, videos, and links just to name a few. If you’re listening to Pandora for example you will experience image, link, and audio ads.
